3/28/07 - Java User Group Contest

March 28 - Meeting Agenda

Cutting Edge Contest

Prize Purse:

Deadline: March 17th, 11:59 PM

Contest Description

Have you written or know all about an opensource tool, IDE Plugin, API toolkit, framework, testing toolkit / framework, build system, or revolutionary new way to do something? Here's your chance to share it and GET STUFF! It can be something you invented, or something kind of obscure that you've figured out how to use. The only requirement is that it helps with Java-based development or is Java-based and is used in production.

The top 5 entries will be announced at the March HJUG meeting and the entrants must be present to give their presentation or they will be disqualified. After all presentations, the winners will be voted on by the audience. All submitted entries will be distributed on the website several days after the meeting is over.

The entry period ends Saturday March 17th at 11:59 P.M. Late entries will not be considered, but will be added to the presentations posted on the website. Re-submission of entries will be allowed, but only the last submission before the deadline will be considered. Entries must consist of a brief set of slides (no more than 5) that you will show, along with any code you will use in your demo. Presentations will need to be 10-15 minutes long, with a Q&A period of 5-10 minutes, with the total presentation period being no longer than 20 minutes.

You must have a laptop in order to present. If you do not have a laptop, you will need to find or borrow one in order to make your presentation.

Email you entry zipped up, with an explanation of what you're presenting about, what you'll cover in your presentation, and clear instructions on how to install and run your code to hjugcontest@gmail.com Note: Don't make us bend over backwards to set it up or we'll move on (i.e. include all your jars/make it automated!)

Read these great articles on how to give a good presentation if you get a chance (remember you only have 5 slides!):

If you have questions, post them to the HJUG mailing list at hjug@yahoogroups.com so everyone else can get the answer and be on the same footing. I will also post the questions and answers on this page.
